Stop Bone Loss!!

Occasionally there comes a time when a tooth must be replaced due to trauma, injury, or decay. At that point a dental implant is really the best option. There are a few things to remember when you and your dentist are looking to replace a hopeless tooth.

Implants are titanium devices that integrate with the bone to act like a root of a tooth. A separate crown is placed on top of the implant for a patient's function (chewing). In order to have a great looking and stable implant, a patient must have the proper bone available.

After an extraction and replacement with either with a bridge or no replacement at all, some of the bone that previously surrounded the tooth begins to deteriorate.
You can expect at least 30-60% bone loss within 6 months around the extraction socket. You can also expect at least 1mm loss of vertical bone height. That represents a tremendous loss of bone volume that would have provided much needed support for implants. To help stop that loss, the dentists at Suwanee Dental Care add material to the tooth extraction site to help bone regrow not disappear. This is called a bone graft.

This material acts like a scaffolding to help the body grow bone in the area and keep the dimensions stable for a future implant. This assists in getting a great result in the future that lasts longer and helps achieve that smile you hope to have!
